What we keep, and what we don’t.
Effective 27 September 2026 · Sk8tics, Ontario, Canada
Sk8tics is a practice log for figure skaters and their coaches. This page describes every category of information the app holds, who can reach it, and how to remove it. It is written to be read, not to be survived.
The short version
What the app collects
| Category | What, exactly | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Email address, a username you choose, your name, whether you are under 18, whether you are a skater or a coach, and which discipline you skate. | To sign you in and to show the right scale of values. |
| Your training | Practice sessions, the marks against each element, your programmes and their planned content, and any notes. | It is the log. This is the app. |
| Coach scoring | Run-through scores a linked coach records for you, element by element, with their notes. | So you can read what your coach saw. |
| Competition records | Results imported from officially published protocols: competitor name, club, placement, element and component scores, and the individual judges’ marks, plus any notes. You can record your own, and a linked coach can record one for you; each record belongs to whoever recorded it. | To keep a competition record without retyping a sheet. |
| Notifications | A device token, if you allow notifications, and your two on/off preferences. | To tell you when a coach has scored you. |
Your first and last name, your email address and the message you send through the contact form are emailed to us and kept in our Gmail mailbox; none of them is stored in the app or its database, except a keyed one-way hash of your email address, as the next sentence explains. To limit abuse, a keyed one-way hash of the sender’s email and network address is kept, and deleted once it is more than 24 hours old, the next time anyone uses the form.
A note on competition results
Competition protocols are documents Skate Ontario and skatingresults.ca publish openly on the web. Importing one copies information that is already public into your own record, whether you import it yourself or a linked coach does it for you. Because a protocol lists everyone in a segment, you or your coach can also save another skater’s result to compare against — exactly as you could by keeping the printed sheet.
What the app does not collect
- No advertising identifiers, and no advertising.
- No analytics or usage tracking. There is no analytics SDK in the app.
- No location, contacts, photos, camera, microphone or health data.
- No payment information. The app is free and has nothing to buy.
- No purchase of data about you from anybody else.
Who can see your information
- You — all of it.
- A coach you have linked with — your log, programmes, scores and competition records, including the ones you recorded yourself, which they can read but not change. A link needs both sides to agree, and either side can end it. When it ends, the coach loses access immediately, except to the scores and competition records they recorded themselves.
- Nobody else. Not other skaters, not other coaches, not your club.
These rules are enforced by the database, through row-level security, and not only by the app. A request for someone else’s data returns nothing even if it is made outside the app entirely. That property is checked by an automated test suite on every change.
Who processes it for us
| Service | What it does |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Hosts the database, signs you in, and runs the server functions. |
| Google (Gmail) | Carries and stores the messages you send through the contact form. |
| Expo | Delivers app updates, and passes notifications to Apple and Google. |
| Apple · Google | Distribute the app and deliver notifications to your device. |
| Skate Ontario · skatingresults.ca | We read their published results. Nothing about you is ever sent to them. |
These are processors, not partners. None of them is given your information for their own purposes.
Skaters under 18
Figure skating is largely a junior sport and we expect many users to be minors. A younger skater’s account collects nothing beyond what an adult’s does, and is subject to exactly the same access rules.
How long it is kept
Until you delete it. There is no automatic expiry, because a training log is only useful across seasons. Deleting your account removes everything described above.
Deleting your account
In the app: tap Account at the top of any screen, scroll to the bottom, type your username where it says Type your username to confirm, then tap Delete my account. The deletion is immediate and total — the sign-in goes too, not just the data behind it.
If you can't sign in, use the contact form with the email address on the account. We will reply to that address to confirm before we delete anything, and you do not need to install anything.
Your other rights
You can ask for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, or ask what we hold. Send us a message through the contact form and we will answer. Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA) you may also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if you are unhappy with how we have handled a request.
Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit. Access rules live in the database rather than the application, which is the meaningful difference: a bug in the app cannot hand out data the database will not release. Passwords are stored and verified by Supabase’s authentication service and are never visible to us.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect or who can see it, the app will tell you rather than quietly updating this page. The effective date at the top always reflects the current version.
